Karaoke Bars Gaining in Popularity

April 12, 2007 by sachinskg

A new form of musical entertainment is sweeping the world and it does not involve famous artists. This phenomenon is the karaoke bar and its stars are you and your friends, karaoke enthusiasts who just love to sing for fun.

Listening to friends or total strangers sing at karaoke bars is becoming as popular as going out to the record store to buy the latest CDs by the world’s leading musicians. It is a major business with karaoke bars popping up all over the place.

Karaoke bars can come in many forms. The most common have dedicated rooms big enough to fit up to 10 people, who sit in comfortable sofas singing their favorite tunes. You also find regular bars with tables, chairs and stools having huge karaoke set-ups in the middle for patrons to go and up sing.

You even find tiny cubicles big enough for no more than two people, who pay a few coins for the chance to sit together and sing to their hearts’ delight. Often, you will find others queuing up waiting for their turn.

During the early years of karaoke, singing in front of strangers was considered embarrassing. However, people are getting braver and listeners more sympathetic as this kind of leisure activity increases in popularity.

Karaoke bars that house just a single player are not unlike restaurants and pubs that have a resident band. Only this time the entertainment is coming from the customers themselves.

People patronize these karaoke bars not only for the food, drinks and ambience, but also for the chance to go out with friends and take turns belting out their beloved songs on the karaoke machine.

Some bars raise the entertainment factor by hiring a karaoke jockey, who would choose the songs that people like to sing along to and invite patrons on to the stage or floor to croon to the tunes.

Of course, you won’t be singing all the time. You will also listen to others give it their best shot. In these friendly and warm surroundings, it doesn’t matter how well, or badly, you sing but how good a time you are having.
